Kennedy continues to rank in public memory and esteem as among our most admired Presidents because of his "charisma" (a noun never applied to his immediate predecessor or successor, no matter how worthy the accomplishments of Eisenhower and Johnson). And Kennedy's murder seems so senseless, so irrational, so devastating that, as Judith Lupatkin suspects, conspiracy fevers are easily hatched.
